Did you know..as many as 6 new elements have been added to the
Periodic Table of the Elements as recently as 1999.
Believe it or not,
the newest additions to the Periodic Table of Elements still don't have names. These six elements occupy positions 110, 111, 112, 114, 116, and 118 in the Los Alamos National Laboratory Periodic Table. The last three are listed as "mysterious elements." The site assures us that "these elements have... been produced and can exist."
Human-made element 110 was first produced in 1994 at the Heavy Ion Research Laboratory, in Darmstadt, West Germany, by fusing together atoms of nickel and lead. Elements 111 and 112 were discovered at the same lab in 1994 and 1996 respectively. The newest named element, Meitnerium (109), was created in Germany in 1982, by researchers using fusion techniques to make new, heavy nuclei...

President Bush: "Takes responsibility"
WASHINGTON, DC (Reuters) -
President George W. Bush took responsibility on Tuesday for any failures in the federal response to Hurricane Katrina and acknowledged the storm exposed serious deficiencies at all levels of government four years after the September 11 attacks.
"To the extent that the federal government didn't fully do its job right, I take responsibility," Bush told a White House news conference at which he openly questioned U.S. preparedness for another storm or a "severe attack."
Bush's rare admission of "serious problems in our response capability" came as the White House stepped up efforts to repair his public standing. Bush will address the nation at 9 p.m. EDT (0100 GMT) on Thursday from hard-hit Louisiana, his fourth visit to the disaster zone since Katrina struck.A chink in the armor..? An honest move though. I'll give Bush credit for that one. Now let's se if their is any follow-thru towards actual help from the administration.

Redskins QB Brunell to Start Vs. Cowboys
ASHBURN, Va. (AP) - Mark Brunell needed only one game to become the starting quarterback job for the Washington Redskins, with Patrick Ramsey undone by an interception, two fumbles and a very sore neck.
Joe Gibbs said Brunell will start next Monday night against the Dallas Cowboys, a quick undoing of the coach's 10 months of preparation for Ramsey to be the 2005 starter.
``This is something that is extremely hard,'' Gibbs said Monday. ``You don't like doing this. I don't. Sometimes you don't chart the circumstances or what happens - it just happens. Certainly it wasn't the plan I had going in, but sometimes plans change, and I think you do the best you can in dealing with it.''
Ramsey left Sunday's 9-7 victory over the Chicago Bears with a sprained neck when he was hit by linebacker Lance Briggs on a blitz in the second quarter. Ramsey was well enough to return at halftime, but Gibbs stuck with Brunell for the rest of the game.
